Having world-premiered at this year’s SXSW Film Festival, Kasra Farahani’s THE WAITING and Billy O’Brien’s I AM NOT A SERIAL KILLER are now en route to theaters.
Vertical Entertainment announced today that it has picked up North American rights to THE WAITING, which marks Farahani’s feature directorial debut from a script by Mark Bianculli and Jeff Richard. MISERY’s James Caan (pictured above) stars along with SCOUTS GUIDE TO ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE’s Logan Miller, Keir Gilchrist from IT FOLLOWS and DARK SUMMER, Laura Innes, Edwin Hodge, Anne Dudek and Bailey Noble. The synopsis: “The experiment started with a simple idea: If you had the equipment and ambition, could you convince another person that they’re being haunted? Through a series of escalating ‘haunts,’ two teenage boys prod an elderly neighbor further and further in order to get a reaction. As their suspicions grow and the tension mounts, they realize too late that the man they’re manipulating is the last person they should’ve chosen for their project.” Release is planned for this fall.
Earlier this week, IFC Films announced that it had acquired I AM NOT A SERIAL KILLER for its IFC Midnight line; the movie will likely bow in late summer. Scripted by ISOLATION’s O’Brien and Christopher Hyde from the novel by Dan Wells, it stars Christopher Lloyd, Max Records, Laura Fraser and Karl Geary. Records plays a teenager in a small town battling his own homicidal tendencies while trying to track down a local murderer.
