SXSW Film Festival Line-up Nabs “OUTCAST”, “IN A VALLEY OF VIOLENCE” PremieresMovies/TV,News Ken W. Hanley
For attendees of genre-friendly film festivals, SXSW is one of the few tried-and-true destinations of the year, having been the host to the world premieres of many anticipated horror flicks. Now, SXSW has announced their 2016 line-up that will be playing from March 11th – 20th in Austin, Texas, which includes the latest from Ti West, Robert Kirkman and many, many more.
Perhaps the biggest SXSW premiere for horror fans is Ti West’s upcoming western film IN A VALLEY OF VIOLENCE, produced by Blumhouse and sporting an all-star cast that includes John Travolta, Ethan Hawke, Karen Gillan and Taissa Farmiga (as well as genre vets Larry Fessenden and James Ransone). The premiere is one big step towards a definitive future for the highly anticipated film, which will be the first release for West following his induction in the FANGORIA Hall of Fame in 2015.
SXSW will also host the world premieres for several other horror titles: Carson D. Mell’s exorcism comedy ANOTHER EVIL, Billy O’Brien’s coming of age killer thriller I AM NOT A SERIAL KILLER, Kasra Farahini’s faux-haunting comedy THE WAITING, Ben & Alex Brewer’s heist thriller THE TRUST (starring Nicolas Cage and Elijah Wood), and Joel Potrykus’ THE ALCHEMIST COOKBOOK. The film festival will also premiere the pilots for Robert Kirkman’s OUTCAST (pictured above, directed by THE GUEST’s Adam Wingard) and AMC’s adaptation of PREACHER, helmed by THIS IS THE END’s Adam Goldberg and Seth Rogen. Other genre-friendly screenings of note at SXSW includes the bloody upcoming POV action-thriller HARDCORE HENRY and Jeff Nichols’ sci-fi thriller MIDNIGHT SPECIAL, both of which see wide U.S. releases before the summer movie season.
And for those looking for something different from SXSW, the film festival will also be hosting the premiere of Irene Taylor Brodsky’s terrifying true crime documentary BEWARE THE SLENDERMAN while Emma Rozanski’s PAPAGAJKA offers foreign fright through an alternative lens. For tickets and the full line-up of films, be sure to check out SXSW’s Official Website.
