SXSW chiller “HUSH,” from “OCULUS’ ” Mike Flanagan, is rushing to release

,

One of the top genre titles at this month’s SXSW Film Festival has been snapped up for distribution ahead of its world premiere on Saturday, and will arrive very soon.

Word has come down that Netflix has acquired worldwide streaming rights to HUSH, the latest from director Mike Flanagan, who previously helmed the highly acclaimed ABSENTIA and OCULUS. The company won’t waste any time getting the movie out there, making it available globally beginning April 8. Flanagan scripted HUSH with Kate Siegel, who also stars as the film’s heroine; the synopsis: “After losing her hearing as a teenager, author Maddie Young [Siegel] has lived a life of isolation, fully retreating into her now silent world. When the masked face of a psychotic killer appears in the window of her secluded home, she must push herself beyond her mental and physical limits in order to survive the night.”

John A. Gallagher Jr., who co-stars in this week’s 10 CLOVERFIELD LANE, plays the deranged attacker, and Samantha Sloyan and Michael Trucco co-star. “We’re excited that Netflix is our platform to connect this movie with audiences around the globe,” says Trevor Macy of Intrepid Pictures, which produced HUSH with Blumhouse Productions, and the latter’s Jason Blum says, “HUSH is a great example of what happens when you give an incredible filmmaker like Mike Flanagan creative freedom to tell a fun and original scary story. We had a great time continuing our relationship with Mike and Intrepid [following OCULUS] and are psyched to share Mike’s movie with genre lovers all over the world on Netflix.” Look for more on HUSH at this site as it hits SXSW and nears release!
