“STOKER” scripter tackles remake of French fave “WITH A FRIEND LIKE HARRY…”

Ever since actor Wentworth Miller made a creepy screenwriting debut with the Park Chan-wook-directed STOKER, fans have been waiting for his follow-up project, and it has been announced that he’s rebooting a topnotch French thriller for Focus Features.

Variety reports that Miller has been tapped to script a remake of WITH A FRIEND LIKE HARRY… (pictured above) for Focus and producers Celine Rattray, Trudie Styler and Michelle Krumm. The original, released Stateside in 2001 and directed/co-written by Dominik Moll, stars a memorable Sergi Lopez (who won a Cesar Award, as did Moll) in the title role of a man who insinuates himself into the life of Michel (Laurent Lucas), claiming to be an old high-school acquaintance. His offers to help make Michel’s life better take a dark turn when that assistance comes to include murder. CARRIE’s Kimberly Peirce was once attached to helm the new film, but is no longer involved; a new director has yet to be announced.
