Stiles, Speedman, Rea get haunted in “OUT OF THE DARK”
A solid trio of actors just got started shooting the supernatural thriller OUT OF THE DARK on location in Bogota, Colombia.
DEXTER’s Julia Stiles (pictured above), UNDERWORLD’s Scott Speedman and INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE’s Stephen Rea have the leads in OUT OF THE DARK, a co-production of Colombia’s Dynamo and Spain’s Apaches Entertainment. The story focuses on American couple, Sarah and Paul Harriman, who move to Colombia with their young daughter Hannah to take over the manufacturing business owned by Sarah’s father, and discover that the house they’ve moved into is haunted. Lluís Quílez, who helmed 2nd unit on the new Spanish thriller PAINLESS, makes his feature directorial debut on OUT OF THE DARK, from a script by Alex and David Pastor (writer/directors of 2009’s CARRIERS) and Javier Gullón, whose credits include HIERRO and EL REY DE LA MONTAÑA. Jeff Skoll of Participant Media and Jonathan King and Nick Spicer of XYZ Films are executive-producing.
“Given Participant’s mission to illuminate important issues, this is not your average ghost story,” King says. “You can be sure that there’s a bigger reason why this takes place at this particular house in the Colombian jungle and to this particular family.” Adds Apaches’ Belen Atienza, whose credits include PAN’S LABYRINTH, THE ORPHANAGE and INTRUDERS, “OUT OF THE DARK showcases the talent of Lluís Quílez to give life to frightening stories that go beyond the genre to explore deeper emotions.”
