Stanley Film Festival ’15: Visionary Award Winner, Panels, 3D Experience AnnouncedBooks/Art/Culture,News Ken W. Hanley
For those keeping tabs here at FANGORIA.com, the Stanley Film Festival is one of 2015’s most exciting genre experiences of the year. Blending interactive events, alternate reality games, and a horror-centric film festival, Stanley Film Festival has given fright fans more than enough incentive to check out the supposedly haunted hotel (which served as the inspiration for THE SHINING). Yet it turns out SFF 2015 has a few more surprises up their sleeve, as they announced yesterday the recipient of their annual Visionary Award as well as the full line-up of panels and interactive experiences.
The winner of the 2015 Visionary Award from the Stanley Film Festival is none other than Tom Quinn, co-president of Radius-TWC and champion of such indie darlings as BLUE RUIN, SNOWPIERCER, ALL THE BOYS LOVE MANDY LANE and ONLY GOD FORGIVES, and who will be releasing Stanley 2015 films WHEN ANIMALS DREAM and GOODNIGHT MOMMY. Quinn also created the Magnet Releasing label for Magnolia Pictures, with Quinn helping release LET THE RIGHT ONE IN, THE HOUSE OF THE DEVIL, THE ABCs OF DEATH, and THE HOST during his time at the company. But Quinn earned the award this year for his risky yet rewarding release strategy with IT FOLLOWS, putting the film in over 1500 theaters to become a crossover hit and one of 2015’s “must-see” horror films.
“Mr. Quinn is the catalyst behind some of the most groundbreaking titles in modern horror,” stated Denver Film Society Festival Director, Britta Erickson. “Not only does his work elevate the genre, he has been at the forefront of providing unique and innovative platforms for distribution that are changing the industry.”
The Stanley Film Festival also announced that they will be hosting CATATONIC, a 3D virtual reality experience that takes participants into a horrific insane asylum. Directed by Guy Shelmerdine, participants will be ushered in by a nurse and fitted with a Samsung Gear headset and headphones for a 360° 3D immersive experience building to a cacophony of terror and depravity one has to experience to believe. The experience will also be completely free and open to the public.
