Spierigs to Direct “WINCHESTER”, Based on Famous Mystery House

The talented duo behind UNDEAD and DAYBREAKERS, as well as the upcoming time travel feature PREDESTINATION have teamed with Hammer for WINCHESTER, a horror film based on the San Jose house of mystery.

The famous Winchester Mystery House is quite actually a sad story of seeming psychosis.

Sarah Winchester, who married the heir to the Winchester rifle throne, was thrown into a deep depression by the deaths of her infant daughter and husband. Soon after, a medium blamed her misfortune on the ghosts and spirits of those killed by the family business. With her vast wealth, she was instructed to relocate west and build a great house for the dead, one where construction would never cease. And so, Sarah Winchester lived a hidden life of strange occurences in an ever expanding maze of a house. As the official site and history states, “At the time of her death, the unrelenting construction had rambled over six acres. The Sprawling mansion contained 160 rooms, 2,000 doors, 10,000 windows, 47 stairways, 47 fireplaces, 13 bathrooms, and 6 kitchens. Carpenters even left nails half driven when they learned of Mrs. Winchester’s death.”

Michael and Peter Spierig will tell Sarah’s story on location at the actual Winchester Mystery House, Deadline reports. Hammer is producing and expect shooting to begin in early 2015.
