Shuddery Teaser for Short, “HE TOOK HIS SKIN OFF FOR ME”

Envisioned as a “practical SFX fairytale,” and fully funded earlier this year via Kickstarter, the upcoming short HE TOOK HIS SKIN OFF FOR ME has debuted an atmospheric, unsettling teaser of what’s to come.

Directed by Ben Aston and adapted by Maria Hummer from her own short story, HE TOOK HIS SKIN OFF FOR ME is a short film about a man who takes his skin off for his girlfriend, and why it probably wasn’t the best idea.

The fuller synopsis goes on, “Is this what you want? he asked, and I said yes, so he took his skin off for me.” He hangs the loose skin in the closet and comes downstairs to join his girlfriend at the dinner table. This whole thing seems like a good idea.  He’s become what she always wanted him to be. But it’s not all perfect.

The teaser is immediately grabbing. The body shaped bloodstain, making a serene scene of domesticity messy. It seems to capture this intersection of explicit FX and lyrical fairytale the filmmakers are striving for, and will hopefully reach successfully.

You can keep up with HE TOOK HIS SKIN OFF FOR ME at its official Facebook and official site. And for something of a Halloween treat (campfire stories and all), see a video of writer Hummer reading her original short story aloud below.
