Scream Factory Releases “ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK” Blu-ray Art; Early Specs!

,

With Scream Factory’s upcoming 2015 slate growing by the week (with their most recent announcement being Philippe Mora’s THE HOWLING II), there’s few announcements that are anticipated as their Collector’s Edition Blu-ray of ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK. And while the next release in Scream’s line of solid Carpenter Blu’s is still over four months away, FANGO has learned the first details on the upcoming disc, including the outstanding retro-cover art!

In addition to Paul Shipper’s incredible cover-art (which you can see below), Scream Factory revealed on their official Facebook page that their ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK package will be a 2-Disc Set and, most excitedly, will include a 2K scan from the inter-positive, giving the film it’s best looking release to date. Furthermore, the set will include special features both old and new, which will be announced in February, and as per standard, will contain a 18″ x 24″ poster of the new artwork when pre-ordered through their site.

As a Carpenter completist, the 2K transfer is definitely the extra push this set needed to warrant a “double dip” with the existing Blu-ray that I’m sure any self-respecting genre nerd has. And considering Scream Factory’s work with the upcoming SLEEPAWAY CAMP and HOWLING releases indicate they’re aiming for the collector’s market, perhaps Scream Factory may give a similar release to ESCAPE’s misfit ’90s sibling, ESCAPE FROM L.A.? Well, maybe not, but for any Carpenter film that involves Kurt Russell going face to face with Bruce Campbell, I’d never say never.
