At this point, I’ve become convinced that every other day besides Christmas, Santa Claus works in Acquisitions for SHOUT! Factory. There’s no other reasonable explanation for the consistent amount of joy that is doled out regularly under their SCREAM Factory banner. This latest news is no exception. The SCREAM Factory Facebook page let loose that the brand will release Brian De Palma’s superb cult classic, THE PHANTOM OF THE PARADISE, on Blu-ray for the first time in North America.

For those unfamiliar, THE PHANTOM OF THE PARADISE is a rock ‘n’ roll infused love letter to gothic horror, especially THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA and FAUST, told as only Brian De Palma could tell it. For those who are familiar, the film is generally regarded as De Palma’s most fun and excitable film, with infectious (and Academy Award-nominated) music and gorgeous art direction all around. It’s a surreal to say the least, and to see SHOUT! giving it the high definition treatment is music to this fright fan’s ears.

SCREAM writes to expect the release in the latter half of Summer 2014.
