[San Diego Comic-Con ‘13] Fangoria Presents a Free Screening of “WE ARE WHAT WE ARE”!

we-are-what-we-are-sundance

Jim Mickle’s fantastic reimagining of the Mexican cannibal story WE ARE WHAT WE ARE is out later this year, but dedicated fans that travel to San Diego each summer for the best in film, television, comics and collectibles deserve something special. WE ARE WHAT WE ARE is just that and FANGORIA is excited to provide a host of readers with tickets to see the film absolutely free on Friday, July 19.

In WE ARE WHAT WE ARE, a seemingly wholesome and benevolent family, the Parkers have always kept to themselves, and for good reason. Behind closed doors, patriarch Frank (Bill Sage, “Boardwalk Empire”) rules his family with a rigorous fervor, determined to keep his ancestral customs intact at any cost.  As a torrential rainstorm moves into the area, tragedy strikes and his daughters Iris (Ambyr Childers, THE MASTER) and Rose (Julia Garner, MARTHA MARCY MAY MARLENE, SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR) are forced to assume responsibilities that extend beyond those of a typical family.  As the unrelenting downpour continues to flood their small town, the local authorities begin to uncover clues that bring them closer to the secret that the Parkers have held closely for so many years.

Just blocks away from the San Diego Convention Center, eOne presents WE ARE WHAT WE ARE at the Reading Gaslamp Theatres (701 5th Ave) at 8 p.m. I will be on hand to conduct a Q&A with director Jim Mickle (MULBERRY ST, STAKE LAND) about this compelling work, which had its world premiere at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival before screening at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival’s Directors’ Fortnight.” Plus, our first thirty eighty entries will also join us at the after party!

To attend, please e-mail Sam@Fangoria.com with the subject “We Are What We Are” and include your full name. For much more, see our glowing review of the film from Sundance.
