Angela Vidal returns in “[REC] 4: APOCALYPSE” TrailerMovies/TV,News Samuel Zimmerman
The seemingly final [REC] film is nearly upon us, and it looks like the series just might go 4/4.
After an unfairly maligned diversion into the realm of horror-comedy with Paco Plaza’s [REC]: GENESIS (seriously, it is great fun), original [REC] co-creator Jaume Balaguero is closing it on out with [REC]: APOCALYPSE and our favorite newswoman, Angela Vidal (Manuela Velasco). Considering the ending of [REC] 2, it’s safe to assume she’ll be up to nasty business alongside a boatload (literally!) of possessed cohorts.
While some may frown at where the series has gone, specifically away from its roots in “found footage,” it’s hard to not give this film the benefit of the doubt. Both Plaza and Balaguero are talented filmmakers, whether collaborating or working solo and if they feel they’ve brushed up against the limitations of what they could do with the faux doc style, their more classically informed work—like SLEEP TIGHT— can back up the choice to deviate.
[REC]4: APOCALYPSE bows in Spain this October 31. No word when the U.S. might get to see it just yet.
