The gonzo, no boundaries anthology THE ABCs OF DEATH has now been adapted into the format which inspired it, a must-own hardcover children’s book.
With original artwork from storybook illustrator Stephen Britt and verse by Alamo Drafthouse programmer and producer Zack Carlson, the book features 56 pages, that much like the film, are full of the playfully gruesome, lewd, macabre, what have you. “The idea for this unusual film sprung from a deep fondness of alphabet books from our collective childhood,” says ABCs producer and creator Ant Timpson. “A little digging revealed that the books had a dark history, and that many early versions were used as punishment primers. In a sleep deprived state that was all the ammunition required for an epiphany of sorts. How about creating a film inspired by the alphabet?”
Limited to 666 copies, THE ABCs OF DEATH storybook, which includes the film on Blu-ray, is available for $37 right here.
