Not Yeti forgotten: Hammer reboots “ABOMINABLE SNOWMAN”

Hammer Films has been long famous for its Dracula and Frankenstein franchises, but now one of its less-celebrated screen creatures is stomping back onto the scene.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the new Hammer is planning an update of its 1957 film THE ABOMINABLE SNOWMAN (a.k.a. THE ABOMINABLE SNOWMAN OF THE HIMALAYAS). In this take, scripted by Jon Croker, who wrote Hammer’s currently filming THE WOMAN IN BLACK: ANGEL OF DEATH, and PUSHER’s Matthew Read, the legendary man-monster is awakened when a scientific expedition embarks on an illegal ascent of one of the world’s most challenging mountains. Ben Holden, a producer on the WOMAN IN BLACK sequel and Hammer’s upcoming THE QUIET ONES, holds the same position on this project. “The success of LET ME IN and THE WOMAN IN BLACK has shown that there is an appetite for quality horror films,” says Hammer president/CEO Simon Oakes, “so it is exciting to draw on Hammer’s unparalleled source material in this genre, which can be reimagined and updated for a new audience.” A director, cast and start date have yet to be determined for THE ABOMINABLE SNOWMAN.
