Nicolas Winding Refn To Direct L.A. Horror Story,”THE NEON DEMON”

After traversing L.A. in his breakout violent crime film, DRIVE, celebrated filmmaker of the slick and strange Nicolas Winding Refn will return for female-driven horror tale, THE NEON DEMON.

If that sounds familiar, it’s because Refn is also currently developing another female-driven horror film entitled I WALK WITH THE DEAD. THE NEON DEMON is expected to go first with production on the Gaumont and Wild Bunch-produced picture slated for early 2015. Refn says, “One morning I woke and realized I was both surrounded and dominated by women. Strangely, a sudden urge was planted in me to make a horror film about vicious beauty.”

Writer Mary Laws co-wrote with Refn, while Cliff Martinez (DRIVE, ONLY GOD FORGIVES) will re-team with the director on the score. Refn, both an adventurous filmmaker and noted genre aficionado, has expressed great interest in diving into an out-and-out horror in recent years. An exciting notion, considering his transgressive, heightened and often ultraviolent and otherworldly atmospheres.
