New York’s “PUMPKIN PIE SHOW” returns this OctoberBooks/Art/Culture,News Samuel Zimmerman
A now annual bit of spooky storytelling, author, playwright and Fango friend Clay McLeod Chapman’s PUMPKIN PIE SHOW has announced its 2013 iteration. Subtitled BOOGEDY BOO!, the performance will return to Under St. Mark’s (94 St. Mark’s Pl, Between 1st Avenue and Ave. A) this October 10-26.
An always thrilling blend of eerie tales, gallows humor and even accounts of horrifying real-life embarrassment, the Pumpkin Pie Show is a particular October treat. This year, as per release, Chapman (of Fear Mongers, Children’s Book THE TRIBE and audio plays TALES FROM BEYOND THE PALE), Hanna Cheek and Ana Asensio will tackle “a whole bevy of everyday horrors, including a case of post-partum depression that quickly descends into Edgar Allan Poe-style madness, possessed hair extensions, haunted vinyl, masturbating in the middle of a Broadway matinee of Phantom of the Opera, and much, much more literary depravity.”
Performances run Thursday-Saturday at 8 p.m. and tickets ($18, $15 for students and seniors) can be found at Horse Trade Theater Group. I wholeheartedly recommend.
