New “OLDBOY” photos show off Josh Brolin’s mean imprisoned beardMovies/TV,News Samuel Zimmerman
There’s an upside to being mysteriously captured and confined for 20 years, allowed no contact with the outside world. A mean bushel of beard.
One master, significant filmmaker remaking another. That’s the intriguing proposition the upcoming OLDBOY lays out. Spike Lee, of DO THE RIGHT THING and INSIDE MAN, has recrafted Park Chan-wook’s modern revenge classic. This time, Josh Brolin plays a man violently removed from his daily life and imprisoned for 20 years with just a TV, Chinese takeout and that aforementioned, fantastic beard. Much like the original, he’s released with explicit instruction to find out just why he was kidnapped. Elizabeth Olsen (MARTHA MARCY MAY MARLENE), Sharlto Copley and Samuel L. Jackson co-star.
OLDBOY is now opening Wednesday, November 27. There’s a joke there about Thanksgiving, family togetherness and the original OLDBOY’s twist. The photos come courtesy of the Huffington Post, where you can see an additional look at a distressed Olsen.
