Mutant-bug flick “STUNG” sets Henriksen et al., reveals FX reelMovies/TV,News Michael Gingold
A couple of genre veterans are among the ensemble of STUNG, a big-bug horror/comedy that rolls next month. Keep reading for more info and a look at a pretty great special FX test reel.
Directed by Benni Diez, produced by Christian Becker and Benjamin Munz of Rat Pack Filmproduction (which backed the sexy-vampire thriller WE ARE THE NIGHT) and executive-produced by XYZ Films, STUNG will star Matt O’Leary and Jessica Cook as Paul and Julia, who are among the catering staff at a fancy garden party at a remote villa. The event is attacked by oversized mutant wasps resulting from the host’s use of an illegally imported plant fertilizer, and Paul and Julia wind up falling in love while battling the creatures.
Lance Henriksen and Peter Stormare will co-star in the movie, which was scripted by Adam Aresty, winner of Rat Pack’s 2012 “Write for Your Life” genre-writing contest. “STUNG, to me, is bringing the creature feature cult film feeling from the ’80s into the present and a modern-day fun horror movie,” says Diez, a short-filmmaker and visual FX artist who worked on Lars von Trier’s MELANCHOLIA. Production on STUNG begins in Berlin on October 22.
