MTV goes in for scripted thrillers from R.L. Stine and Rachel TalalayNews Samuel Zimmerman
While we cautiously await news on their in-development series reboot of SCREAM, MTV has announced two upcoming scripted thriller/horror projects, one adapted from GOOSEBUMPS author R.L. Stine and the other directed by FREDDY’S DEAD and TANK GIRL filmmaker Rachel Talalay.
Announced today, EYE CANDY is based on the novel by horror hero R.L. Stine (GOOSEBUMPS, FEAR STREET) and finds beautiful New Yorker Lindy (Victoria Justice) jump into the world of online dating, only to be confronted with a stalker and the possibility that stalker is a serial killer terrorizing Manhattan. Being a millenial on MTV, Lindy teams with some cyber genius hacker types and gets to work solving the murders. Jason Blum is producing and Catherine Hardwicke (TWILIGHT, RED RIDING HOOD) directs.
Meanwhile, MTV has also ordered a feature—likely in the vein of their very fun MY SUPER PSYCHO SWEET 16 series—starring Alexis Knapp (PITCH PERFECT) and directed by Talalay entitled THE DORM. The project revolves around “Vivian (Knapp), an awkward college freshman who struggles with major self-esteem issues but undergoes a transformation into a flawless, seductive beauty at the hands of her new dorm mates.” Sean Hood, of HALLOWEEN: RESURRECTION and last month’s THE LEGEND OF HERCULES penned the screenplay.
