Montreal Horrorfest Film Festival: First Wave Announced!

The Montreal HorrorFest is back for its third year, rolling out a miasma of morbid programming and gory guests geared toward the genre, including a diverse film festival component that spotlights genre pictures from around the world. FANGORIA got the scoop on the first wave of those fright flicks and you can have look for yourself in the list below…

FEATURES

1- THE SCRIBLLER (USA, 88min)
Directed by: John Suits
Starring: Katie Cassidy, Billy Campbell & Eliza Dushku

A young woman is facing her destructive multiple personalities using an experimental new procedure known as “The Siamese Burn.”

2- DARK AWAKENING (USA, 92min)

Terrifying experiences surround the Thomas family (James, Jennifer and little Danny) when temporally residing in an old family estate. They encounter the disturbing spirits of nine dead children, only to be compounded by something far more sinister and far more deadly.

3- RADIO SILENCE (USA, 95min)

5- AN AMERICAN TERROR (USA, 85min)

6- GHOST BRIDE (New Zealand, 82min)
Directed by: David Blyth
Starring: Yoson An, Rebekah Palmer, Fiona Feng

Supernatural thriller from New Zealand filmmaker David Blyth following the romance between Chinese immigrant Jason Chen and Kiwi girl Skye. When Chen proposes to Skye, tensions arise from his PARENTS and the woman they wanted him to wed, Mei Ling. But the traditional Chinese culture clash is nothing compared to the conflict of two worlds: the living and the dead.

7- EVANGELINE (Canada, 85min)

A naive university student, EVANGELINE, is brutalized by a gang of thrill seeking killers. Left to die in the forest, she is ‘saved’ by an ancient demon spirit. The spirit empowers Evangeline with a blood-lust for vengeance. Evangeline must make a choice, is she willing to sacrifice her own soul..

8- THE STRANGE COLOR OF YOUR BODY’S TEARS (Belgium, 102 min)

Following the disappearance of his wife, a man finds himself on a dark and twisted trail of discovery through the labyrinthine halls of his apartment building. In this clever homage to 80’s slasher films, a group of teenagers looking to party get stranded when their ride breaks down, and end up being stalked by a cannibalistic killer.

When two friends open a Halloween fun house on Devil’s Night it is all fun and games until their former sorority sisters begin to arrive. These six sisters are confronted by their past as the night SPINS out of control.

02- THE LAST HALLOWEEN (Canada, 11 min)

Four young trick-or-treaters set out on a door-to-door adventure – making their way from house to house, collecting strange treats as they go – that could very well end up being… the Last Halloween!

03- JACK ATTACK (USA, 8 min)
Directed by: Bryan Norton, Antonio Padovan
Starring: Helen Rogers, Tyler Rossell, Steve Anderson Jr.

Jack’s favorite babysitter Elizabeth introduces him to the art of pumpkin carving on Halloween night. Nothing will ever be the same.

04- FOOL’S DAY (USA, 19 min)
Directed by: Cody Blue Snider
Starring: Mitchell Jarvis, Justin Absatz, Phyllis Bowen

FOOL’S DAY is a dark comedy about a 4th grade class that pull an innocent, April Fool’s prank on their teacher…that accidentally kills her. Panicked and convinced they will go to prison, the blood splattered classmates try to cover up the murder and dispose of the body before their D.A.R.E. officer shows up for his weekly lesson.

05- CALL GIRL (USA, 06 min)
Directed by: Jill Sixx Gevargizian
Starring: Laurence R. Harvey, Tristan Risk

In one man’s attempt to exploit his date night via video-chat, he ends up sharing something far more disturbing.

06- TASHA AND FRIENDS (Canada, 15 min)

Starring: Stephanie Christiaens, Raven Cousens, John Cross

Local children’s show host, Tasha, decides to shut the show down. Her puppet co-stars, however, want to shut her down…permanently.

07- ONE MORE FOR THE ROAD (Canada, 17 min)
Directed by: Navin Ramaswara
Starring: Jeff Sinasac and Lindsay Smith

A married couple go on a road trip to rekindle their marriage, leading to disastrous results. Written and produced by BLOOD IN THE SNOW Film Festival founder Kelly Michael Stewart.

08- KILLER KART (USA, 15 min)

Starring: Christine Alicia Rodriguez, Ray Bouchard, Elly Schaefer

The shopping cart. Four wheels, one basket, and tonight, for the closing crew of a small-town grocery store, a blood-splattered aluminum nightmare.

09- TUMBLING AFTER  (Canada, 7min)
Directed by: Nicholas Humphries
Starring: Cillian Clark-Bojin, Dawson Dunbar, Guillaume Fournet

Jack and Jill went up a hill to fetch a pail of water. Jack fell down and broke his crown, but Jill would not Tumble After… Highlighting themes of gender discrimination in Victorian England,  Tumbling After tells the story of eight-year old Jill, the oppression she faces from her family, and her childish recourse to stories and imagination leading up to her bizarre revenge.

10- THE TOUR (UK, 15 min)
Directed by: Alex Mathieson, Damon Rickard
Starring: Jessica Cameron, Heather Dorff, Tom Gordon

Darkmoor Manor is England’s most haunted house, its doors closed to the public. It is now just part of a tour which helps attracts visitors to a struggling town. That is until the tour guide, trying to impress two attractive American visitors promises to get them inside. But none of them could be prepared for what was waiting within the shadows of the house.
