If you’re a fan of all things undead, you may want to put down that handful of brains and begin stumbling your way to Michigan. On August 17th and 18th, The Motion Picture Institute of Michigan will become the home for the largest zombie celebration this side of Monroeville: The Detroit Zombie Con.
“There will be guest speakers, zombie themed artwork, demonstrations, illustrators, novelists, filmmakers, make-up artists, interactive events and a zombie beauty pageant,” says event host Doug Schulze, director of MIMESIS: NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD.
“The convention will also feature a two-day film festival with rare films and world premieres.” Films will include the award-winning documentary BIRTH OF THE LIVING DEAD (ahead of its worldwide release from First Run Features), REEL ZOMBIES (Synapse Films), PORTRAIT OF A ZOMBIE from Ireland and FANGORIA Presents’ own GERM Z.
In addition, zombie fans can partake in How-To-Make-A-Zombie seminars with Creature Division FX (THE CRAZIES), film journalist Mike White (THE PROJECTION BOOTH, PARACINEMA) David Hayes (CINEMA HEAD CHEESE) and Jonathan James (DAILY DEAD), as well as zombie artwork from artists Gary Pullin, Mark Hammermeister and Matt Busch.
