Magnolia Pictures dates Ti West’s “THE SACRAMENT” for MayMovies/TV,News Samuel Zimmerman
Ti West’s faux doc THE SACRAMENT, which inserts fictional contemporary Vice reporters in a modern retelling of Jonestown and the Peoples Temple has been announced for a late Spring VOD and limited theatrical release via Magnolia Pictures/Magnet Releasing.
Produced by Eli Roth, THE SACRAMENT finds acclaimed filmmaker Ti West exploring the mockumentary format in what could be his most powerful film yet. Frightful in its point blank depiction of cult leadership, the film stars AJ Bowen and Joe Swanberg as the aforementioned journalists who accompany a colleague (Kentucker Audley) to visit his estranged sister (Amy Seimetz) at offshore commune, Eden Parish. There, they encounter the group’s leader, Father (Gene Jones) and become a catalyst for the parish’s ultimate plans.
Magnolia, who distributed West’s previous HOUSE OF THE DEVIL and THE INNKEEPERS, will release THE SACRAMENT on VOD May 1st, 2014 with a theatrical play to follow June 6. For more on the film, read Fango’s review out of the Toronto International Film Festival right here.
