“LOST TAPES” To Remain So; Newly Titled “AMITYVILLE” Opens January 2015

Earlier this year, FANGORIA reported THE AMITYVILLE HORROR: THE LOST TAPES was “dead”, from a reliable source. Recently however, the validity of the claim was under fire after producer Jason Blum himself revealed the project was “still going.” “We’re going to make that movie and it’s very cool. But I don’t quite know when yet,” he said. Now we do: Blumhouse and Dimension’s AMITYVILLE will open January 2, 2015.

With THE LOST TAPES excised from its title, AMITYVILLE will be written and directed by Casey La Scala and Daniel Farrands, the former having his feature horror debut THE REMAINING coming up in 2014 and the latter being a prolific horror documentarian. The released synopsis states the film will follow an ambitious newswoman who assembles a team of clergymen, paranormal researchers and journalists into an investigation into the events of THE AMITYVILLE HORROR and finds herself entangled in the house’s evil.

Let’s hope Jason Blum has more tricks up his sleeve and this reboot will be worth the time and effort that’s been put into it thus far.
