Larry Fessenden’s “BENEATH” to receive theatrical run this July
Backed by Chiller TV and set to premiere there later this year, the aquatic new film from independent horror master and Glass Eye Pix founder Larry Fessenden will also be hitting select theaters this summer.
Alongside the announcement of two new Chiller projects, Deadline broke that BENEATH will hit limited release July 16. The confined thriller finds five friends looking to celebrate their time together at school with a lakeside party. Out on the water though, a predator beneath the surface threatens their lives as thinly veiled resentments threaten their bonds.
In addition to BENEATH, the previously announced adaptation of W.W. Jacobs’ influential short story THE MONKEY’S PAW from HUSK director Brett Simmons will release On Demand and theatrically October 8. The new adaptation of that classic tale sees “Jake Tilton acquire a mystical ‘monkey’s paw’ talisman that grants its possessor three wishes. He finds his world turned upside down after his first two wishes result in his malevolent coworker, Tony Cobb, being resurrected from the dead. When Cobb pressures Jake into using the final wish to reunite Cobb with his son, his intimidation quickly escalates into relentless murder – forcing Jake to outwit his psychotic friend and save his remaining loved ones.”
Newly revealed are the Drew Barrymore-produced ANIMAL and the Colin Theys-directed DEEP IN THE DARKNESS. ANIMAL, also helmed by Brett Simmons sees a story similar to BENEATH in which a group of friends are trapped in a cabin, wading through personal secrets and resentments as a predator stalks outside. DEEP IN THE DARKNESS, meanwhile is a small-town based creature feature.
