L.A.: FANGO & Secret Sixteen Present One-Night-Only Screening of “PIRANHA: THE ULTIMATE EDITION”Books/Art/Culture,Movies/TV,News Fangoria Staff
Los Angeles, lend us your ears and eyes! FANGORIA and SECRET SIXTEEN are teaming up to screen a one-of-a-kind cut of Joe Dante’s 1978 PIRANHA at Jumpcut Café (13203 Ventura Blvd, Studio City, CA 91604) on Friday, March 13th! FANGORIA’s Rebekah McKendry and SECRET SIXTEEN’s Mike Williamson will be on hand to give away some great prizing and host a post-screening Q&A with star Belinda Balaski. And this one-night-only screening is unlike any PIRANHA screening before it, as we will be showing a super rare 16mm film print featuring extra footage not in the theatrical version!
16mm curator Mike Williamson notes, “When PIRANHA was broadcast on NBC in the early 1980’s, all of the gore and nudity had to be removed, making a film that did not fill the required run time. To make up for that, the filmmakers added in scenes that had been cut from the theatrical release. These mainly consisted humorous gags with Dick Miller and character beats with the two leads, but added up to almost 10 minutes of material!”
Williamson found himself one of these rare NBC prints (which Joe Dante then used to scan for DVD extras) and physically spliced in all the additional footage into an R-rated theatrical print, creating the one of a kind beast he refers to as PIRANHA: THE ULTIMATE EDITION!
The doors will open at 7 p.m. and the film will screen at 8 p.m. sharp. And don’t forget to come hungry and try one of Jumpcut’s amazing sandwiches or salads.
