Kevin Smith, Johnny Depp and Their Daughters Team for “YOGA HOSERS”News Samuel Zimmerman
Last month, filmmaker Kevin Smith (CLERKS, CHASING AMY) announced his intent to spin off the upcoming body horror TUSK (pictured) into a film entitled YOGA HOSERS, will little explication on what the latter film might be. Announced today as teamup between Smith and immeasurably famous actor Johnny Depp, it seems YOGA HOSERS is a supernatural action horror comedy of sorts, with a robust cast and a teenaged mindset.
Starring Depp (and seemingly confirming rumors of his appearance in TUSK), as well as Depp’s daughter Lily-Rose and Smith’s daughter Harley Quinn, YOGA HOSERS concerns “15-year-old yoga nuts Colleen Collette (Lily-Rose Depp) and Colleen McKenzie (Harley Quinn Smith) who have an after-school job at a Manitoba convenience store called Eh-2-Zed. When an ancient evil rises from beneath Canada’s crust and threatens their big invitation to a Grade 12 party, the Colleens join forces with a legendary man-hunter from Montreal named Guy Lapointe (Depp) to fight for their lives with, according to the producers, ‘all seven Charkas, one Warrior Pose at a time.'”
THR reports TUSK’s ensemble—Justin Long, Haley Joel Osment, Genesis Rodriguez, Michael Parks, Ralph Garman, Jennifer Schwalbach and Harley Morenstein—will reappear in YOGA HOSERS, as will Tony Hale (ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT), Natasha Lyonne, Adam Brody, Austin Butler, Tyler Posey and longtime Smith cohort and genre regular, Jason Mewes.
YOGA HOSERS is apparently the second of the True North Trilogy, three Smith films centered on Canadian myths and monsters. It’s described as his next project following TUSK and in the vein of a superhero film. No word on where this places his intended Krampus-focused horror anthology.
TUSK will see its World Premiere this September in the Midnight Madness section of the Toronto International Film Festival. It will then hit Austin for a U.S. Premiere at Fantastic Fest, before A24 releases on September 19. Find the trailer for TUSK, below.
