Kane Hodder in person for “HATCHET III” at Fantasia Festival!
Sinister Cinema, Raven Banner and Cineplex team up to present HATCHET III as a special screening at Montreal’s Fantasia Film Festival on Wednesday July 24th.
“Sinister Cinema” is an ongoing national platform that brings independent horror cinema to Canadian screens, spearheaded by Raven Banner Entertainment and Cineplex Front Row Events (see our earlier article about the series HERE). Previously, their collaboration brought the Soska Sisters’ AMERICAN MARY, Don Coscarelli’s JOHN DIES AT THE END, Rodrigo Gudino’s THE LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT OF ROSALIND LEIGH and Ryuhei Kitamura’s NO ONE LIVES to hungry genre fans in 25 Cineplex theatres across Canada, and now HATCHET III joins the roster with a special screening to be held at Cineplex Odeon Forum Cinemas in Montreal as part of the Fantasia Film Festival – including a Q+A with horror icon Kane Hodder! And for that extra dose of Canuxploitation, the film will be preceded by Canadian horror short THE HUNT, directed by Spencer Estabrooks and written by Greg Jeffs.
From the official press release:
Fantasia’s co-director of International Programming, Mitch Davis said “We love what Raven Banner is doing with their Sinister Cinema events, and are immensely happy to be teaming up with them to co-present HATCHET III in Montreal. If we’re lucky, maybe we’ll able to convince Kane Hodder to stick around and run for Mayor!”
Raven Banner’s Managing Partner, Michael Paszt said, “Our goal at Raven Banner is to expose more Canadians to quality horror, and Fantasia’s support amplifies our Sinister Cinema series tenfold. It’s a real honour to be working with them.”
Concluding the saga begun in Adam Green’s hit 2006 thriller, HATCHET III follows the vengeful Marybeth (horror heroine Danielle Harris of Halloween 4 & 5) as she continues seeking out a way to destroy Victor Crowley (genre icon Kane Hodder of the Friday the 13th & The Texas Chainsaw Massacre series), a hulking, seemingly-invincible sociopath rampaging through a sleepy Louisiana swamp.
While a heavily-armed team of mercenaries takes to the bayou surrounding Crowley’s home, Marybeth finds herself begrudgingly teaming up with a local policeman (Zach Galligan of Gremlins, Waxwork) and his ex-wife (Caroline Williams The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 and Rob Zombie’s Halloween II) – an expert on the maniac who may have uncovered the secret to ending his murderous rampage once and for all.
HATCHET III is written and produced by Adam Green, who created the Crowley character and wrote and directed the first two movies, and B.J. McDonnell steps in to make his directorial debut. He’s previously worked in the camera and electrical department on the two prior HATCHET films as well as Battle: Los Angeles, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, and Rob Zombie’s The Devil’s Rejects and Halloween. The soundtrack was composed by Bear McCreary, the extremely talented musician behind the scores for TV series like ‘Battlestar Galactica’, ‘The Walking Dead’, and ‘Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles’. Also joining the cast of HATCHET III is Cody Blue Snider, the son of Twisted Sister singer Dee Snider, popular geek goddess Rileah Vanderbilt, and genre king Sid Haig.
