“JU-ON” Lives On, New “GRUDGE” Film Underway in JapanMovies/TV,News Samuel Zimmerman
Takashi Shimizu’s iconic Japanese horror series JU-ON (THE GRUDGE) has yielded nine films (six Japanese, three American), as well as novels and a video game. Despite the end of the J-Horror boom, its infamous ghost rattle remains eerie and it’s entirely likely any of the pictures left a lasting impression or served as an introduction to something larger to plenty of viewers. With almost five years having passed since the last installment (WHITE GHOST/BLACK GHOST), it’s been revealed JU-ON will return with OWARI NO HAJIMARI (THE BEGINNING OF THE END) from writer/director Ochiai Masayuki (INFECTION).
Releasing in Japan on June 28 (with filming only getting underway this month), JU-ON: OWARI NO HAJIMARI sees An elementary school teacher named Yui visit the home of a boy named Toshio Saeki who’s been absent from school for a long period of time. When she arrives, she re-lives the horrific tragedy which occurred in the Saeki household 10 years earlier. A cardboard box left in a closet holds the key to revealing a long-hidden truth.
