Johnny Depp joins Universal Monster Universe as “THE INVISIBLE MAN”Movies/TV,News Ken W. Hanley
That’s right, dead-heads: Johnny Depp is lining up to join Tom Cruise and Sofia Boutella in the upcoming Universal Monster Cinematic Universe as Dr. Jack Griffin in the remake of THE INVISIBLE MAN. The news, breaking earlier tonight via Deadline, confirms just how quickly Universal is planning on bringing these interconnected monster movies to life. The move, ushered by the Monsterverse mastermind Alex Kurtzman and producer Chris Morgan, is yet another indicator at the pedigree Universal is aiming for with the films, going hand-in-hand with other A-listers whose names have been rumored to be attached. Yet this news is quite interesting in that Universal is clearly making THE INVISIBLE MAN a priority for the series above its more popular counterparts.
While there’s been no director, screenwriter or time frame attributed to the picture at this time, it’s no doubt an intriguing prospect that Cruise and Depp may share screen time in the revived horror properties; while Cruise hasn’t explicitly done anything genre-wise since INTERVIEW WITH A VAMPIRE, Depp has been more active as of late, with SWEENEY TODD and Kevin Smith’s “True North” trilogy keeping the actor with a foot in the horror world.
