IFC Midnight Explores “BACKCOUNTRY”

After winning much praise out of its Toronto bow and this month’s NYC screenings at Lincoln Center’s Scary Movies 8, Adam MacDonald’s Canadian wilderness thriller BACKCOUNTRY is headed for release via IFC.

THR reports IFC Midnight’s acquisition of the film for U.S. release. Starring Missy Peregrym, Jeff Roop and Eric Balfour, and written and directed by MacDonald, BACKCOUNTRY finds “a hyper-busy executive (Peregrym) and her boyfriend head into the woods for a weekend retreat from big-city pressures — but after an unsettling encounter with a stranger, they find themselves at the mercy of nature’s tooth and claw. ”

Our own Chris Alexander loved the film at TIFF, and you can find his review here. Expect more on BACKCOUNTRY here at Fango as it approaches release.
