Hardy and StudioCanal’s “WICKER MAN” search successful!

This past May, StudioCanal and WICKER MAN director Robin Hardy launched a search for lost, original materials that would be the key in restoring his 88-minute classic to his preferred 102-minute director’s cut. After appealing to the public via Facebook, two months of scouring have yielded results!

In a video posted today at The Wicker Man, Hardy revealed a print of his original cut has been discovered and it seems plans to restore and release are certainly underway. Here is what the filmmaker has to say:

Hello Wicker Man fans, my name is Robin Hardy and I directed the original Wicker Man film. StudioCanal contacted me last year in their search for the original materials that have been missing. I’m very pleased to announce that StudioCanal have been able to find an actual print of THE WICKER MAN, of which is based on my original cut working with Abraxas, the American distributors, all those years ago. And they plan, and this is the exciting bit, to actually release it. This version has never been restored before, has never been shown in UK theaters before, has never been converted to Blu-ray before. This version of THE WICKER MAN, will—optimistically—be known as the Final Cut. Thank you all WICKER MAN fans for your help in the search and please share and spread the word.

Soon after, a post was published that added, “We hope you enjoyed our exciting video from Robin Hardy – We know you must have lots of questions and we are going to give you a bit more background on what we have been working on very soon, keep following The Wicker Man for more details!”

You can find the full video below. Thanks to Marc Edward Heuck (@the_hoyk) for the heads up.
