GWAR to Open Richmond-based GWARbar!News Ken W. Hanley
Following the untimely passing of GWAR frontman Dave Brockie, fans wondered what’s next. Soon after, the band and his surviving family established the Dave Brockie Fund to help preserve the singer’s lesser-known work and commemorate his image in his hometown of Richmond, Virginia. Now, GWAR has officially announced their latest venture in order to fulfill one of Brockie’s last wishes as their frontman: to create the definitive GWAR dining experience, the GWARbar!
GWAR is teaming with restaurateur Travis Coxton to establish the GWARbar in Richmond, with a menu and cocktail program personally handled by GWAR guitarist Michael Derks (aka BalSac, the Jaws O’Death) and featuring other contributions from all current GWAR members. The GWARbar, which will be in Richmond’s Jackson Ward building, will also be the home for those wanting to try their GWAR Beer and infamous GWAR-B-Q Sauce, and looks to establish Richmond’s first Beer GWARden, all at an affordable price.
The GWARbar is not cheap to assemble however, and for renovation funds, they’ve turned to Indiegogo to help drum up some funds to turn the GWARbar into the culinary milestone that it needs to be. If you’d like to donate to help the GWARbar (and possibly have a drink named after you!) and make Oderus Urungus’ dream come true, you can visit the GWARbar Indiegogo here.
Otherwise, the GWARbar is projected to open this summer, so if you want to hear horror rock and eat self-proclaimed “gourmet junk food”, keep an eye out for updates and get down to Richmond!
