Guillermo del Toro To Helm Small, Black-And-White Creature Film Before “PACIFIC RIM 2″

CRIMSONPEAKDELTOROCOMMFEAT

As Guillermo del Toro is in post on what many thought was a smaller diversion between massive budget monster mashes (the gothic CRIMSON PEAK), an even tinier and truly enticing upcoming project has been revealed by the lauded filmmaker.

Collider reports that prior to PACIFIC RIM 2’s production—scheduled to begin in late 2015—del Toro will direct a “really, really bizarre” independent film. Envisioned in black-and-white and featuring “one great creature in it,” the film will hopefully star John Hurt and an as-yet unknown actress, the director explains. He says, “there’s an actress that I have in mind that is not well-known but I’ve seen her in a short film.  That’s all she’s really done, one feature and one short, but she has an incredibly interesting taste and I’m gonna try her out for the main role.”

While something like PAN’S LABYRINTH is no small feat, it’s certainly a style of intimate and personal that many prefer from del Toro. The proposed black-and-white film, of which he won’t reveal the title, sounds likely to hew that way and is undeniably thrilling for admirers (including myself) of his work.
