UPDATE: del Toro’s “PEAK” (Not) Renamed, Set for 2015
There’s a charm to bluntly-named locales that ominously warn the would-be traveler. Guillermo del Toro’s seemingly promising upcoming chiller was already blessed with one, and unfortunately it’s been reined in to something decidedly less poetic.
Update: THR has stated in the original article that HAUNTED PEAK is the production title, and it seems the film will actually release as CRIMSON PEAK.
The Gothic horror picture CRIMSON PEAK, a period sturm und drang haunted house film that’s proposed to be richly designed (à la THE HAUNTING and THE SHINING), chilling and kinky, will now unfold as HAUNTED PEAK. Set for a winter/spring 2014 shoot in Toronto, THR reports the film is expected in April of 2015.
Starring Mia Wasikowska, Jessica Chastain, Tom Hiddleston and Charlie Hunnam, CRIMSON PEAK’s story specifics are unclear, but the lauded filmmaker previously told FANGORIA, “It’s a very traditional Gothic romance, and at the same time very modern in the sense that it has strong sex and violence. I’ve never done a movie that has anything remotely kinky, but this movie is a little kinky and the violence is very shocking. So you’re traversing through a tranquil Gothic romance, and all of a sudden this terrifying and sexual stuff comes in. It’s very much a haunted-house movie, but I don’t think there’s a ghost of a chance that we’ll get a PG-13 rating.”
