Gilliam Returns to Surreal Sci-Fi in First “ZERO THEOREM” Trailer

It’s difficult for one not to get excited for Terry Gilliam’s return to surrealistic science fiction with THE ZERO THEOREM after seeing it’s wonderfully wicked first trailer. Starring Christoph Waltz as a computer genius tasked with solving an equation that would explain the meaning of life, the neon-soaked, industrial world evokes many of Gilliam’s past triumphs while appearing to embody his trademark, biting dark humor. Waltz is also in good company, as Peter Stormare, Tilda Swinton, David Thewlis, Melanie Thierry and Ben Wishaw all will inhabit the strange world of ZERO THEOREM.

While the star-studded project isn’t necessarily horror, there are few filmmakers that stride the line of evocative and satirical genre films as proficiently as Gilliam. The film has yet to find a distributor following its glowing reception at the 2013 Venice Film Festival. Hopefully, the reception to the trailer will rectify that, as original filmmaking doesn’t get as risky or as bizarre as Gilliam.
