Gene Simmons, WWE Studios partner for new horror label Erebus Pictures

,

For those who have been keeping on the up-and-up of contemporary horror films, you might have noticed WWE Studios’ recent extended focus on the horror genre. After co-distributing OCULUS and finding big screen success with THE CALL, they produced last year’s LEPRECHAUN: ORIGINS and SEE NO EVIL, and have stated their intention to pursue more horror projects with up-and-coming horror filmmakers. But today, WWE Studios has taken an even bolder step, partnering with KISS figurehead Gene Simmons to establish a new film production entity, Erebus Pictures.

With a three-picture deal that includes both production and financing of horror films, Erebus will own the worldwide rights to the titles while the WWE will offer its platforms (including TV and the WWE Network) to market the films. Furthermore, Erebus has already named its inaugural production in scribe Matt Savelloni’s TEMPLE. While no director is yet attached, the synopsis is as follows:

TEMPLE follows a team of highly trained operatives who find themselves trapped inside an isolated military compound after its artificial intelligence is suddenly shut down. They begin to experience strange and horrific phenomena as they attempt to uncover who or what killed the team previously stationed at the compound.

TEMPLE is slated to go into production this summer, while the second Erebus Pictures production is slated to start production later this year. While Simmons has often been a horror fan, having appeared in some genre titles in the past, this is the first time Simmons has lent his sensibilities to the genre as a producer. Check back here for more on TEMPLE and Erebus Pictures as it comes in.
