From the FANGORIA Vault: “THINNER”

Oh Fango fans, as the heat rises in this mausoleum that we call the FANGORIA vault, one naturally forgets that this entry comes in the shadow of Cinco de Mayo. Less than a week away, we’ve started stocking up on blood for some macabre margaritas and we’re breaking out our most demented dancing digs. However, lest we all forget about our beach bodies as we approach the delectable cuisine of Mexico, FANGORIA has exhumed a reminder of some torturous weight watching: Tom Holland’s creepy Stephen King adaptation, THINNER! Starring Robert John Burke, Joe Mantegna, Lucinda Jenney, Daniel von Bargen and Kari Wuhrer, THINNER tells the story of an overweight man who hits a gypsy with his car and is cursed with a starvation pox. One of the few well-crafted body horror films of the ’90s, the film is equal parts camp and chills as we watch our pitiful protagonist deteriorate before our eyes. Above all, THINNER benefits from having longtime Stephen King fan Tom Holland behind the camera, allowing his trademark dark humor and make-up driven SFX to take a hold of King’s morbid story. Take a look at the rare shots from the film below but be careful to not let them eat up too much of your time…
