From the FANGORIA Vault: “FRIGHT NIGHT” (1985)

FANGOVAULTFEAT

As things get colder and colder outside of the FANGORIA archives, we have begun to dig deeper and deeper, and we’ve uncovered one hell of a treat this time around.

As a proud fan of horror-comedy, there’s few films out there in the subgenre’s lexicon that inspires as much satisfaction and fandom in this writer as the original FRIGHT NIGHT. An exhibition of world-class practical SFX make-up, FRIGHT NIGHT is also one of the greatest directorial debuts in horror history, coming from veteran genre scribe Tom Holland. Populating the script with biting and hilarious dialogue, FRIGHT NIGHT also contains some truly inspired performances, including an unforgettable turn by Chris Sarandon as the now-iconic Jerry Dandridge and a reinvigorated Roddy McDowall as jaded screen actor Peter Vincent. This shouldn’t take anything away from the rest of the excellent cast, which includes William Ragsdale, Amanda Bearse and Stephen Geoffreys as “Evil” Ed. It’s a fun and captivating story, and FRIGHT NIGHT set the bar plenty of horror-comedies to come afterwards.

So, imagine our surprise when we discovered a vast wealth of awesome behind-the-scenes shots from FRIGHT NIGHT, which are guaranteed to please even the most immovable horror fan. So now, get ready for a new, rare look at FRIGHT NIGHT, but this time, it’s for real!
