From the FANGORIA Vault: “FRIDAY THE 13TH” (1980)

FANGOVAULTFEAT

With the recent barrage of snowstorms over here at the FANGORIA archives, it’s an understatement to say that summer cannot come fast enough. Summer often holds dear memories for this writer, whether it’s of drive-in fright films of yesteryear or the slasher renaissance that would fill the summers of my post-SCREAM adolescence. In fact, each generation likely had a horror film to impact their summers, whether it be JAWS to keep people away from the ocean en masse or FRIDAY THE 13TH to make summer camp even creepier.

And as fate would have it, in the FANGORIA vault lie a treasure trove of cool FRIDAY THE 13TH shots, which have been around this crypt for almost 34 years! This cornerstone of independent slasher filmmaking is still appreciated today with the same reverence as its inception, maybe even more so considering the critical lambasting of the film’s violent content. Still, Tom Savini’s expert make-up FX and Sean Cunningham’s inspired direction provided some of the most unforgettable horror moments of all time, so take a look below at some rare shots from the film and drum up the memories of your first trip to Camp Crystal Lake…
