From the FANGORIA Vault: David Cronenberg’s “THE FLY”

FANGOVAULTFEAT

Are you afraid? Very afraid? Considering some of the oddities we find in the FANGORIA vault, you should be! Today, amongst the rubble and ruin, we’ve discovered a few, very awesome behind-the-scenes stills from one of the quintessential horror films of the ‘80s, THE FLY.

The film that turned David Cronenberg into a household name and translated a schlocky concept from the 1958 film into a terrifying reality, THE FLY is way more than meets the eye, offering character-driven psychodrama and romance as well. Cronenberg’s versatility in directing both FX-heavy body horror and revealing organic dialogue is brilliantly on display, and every fright fanatic got their messy due as Dr. Seth Brundle markedly descends into madness. It’s gross and gory, but also touching and tragic, and even won an Academy Award for the phenomenal make-up work in the film. Even more fascinating is the fact that Cronenberg was brought onto the project by none other than Mel Brooks, who served as an uncredited executive producer on the film.

So, without further adieu, try to stomach these rare photos from THE FLY!
