“FRANKENSTEIN’S ARMY” Red Band Trailer presents a gonzo Nazi monster experience

Only the Nazis — or the Dutch — would think of something like this.

However FRANKENSTEIN’S ARMY turns out (though word is mixed, our Michael Gingold greatly enjoyed), the creatures that director Richard Raaphorst and FX supervisor and his Unreal team have brought to life (affectionately called Zombots) seem to be some of the coolest, most insane in years. Excitingly, the red band trailer trots them out with a gonzo energy supported by Karel Roden’s mad pride in it all.

In the film, set at the end of WWII, “a battalion of Russian soldiers find themselves lost in enemy territory. Stumbling upon a village decimated by an unseen terror, they discover that a mad scientist (Roden) conducts experiments to fuse flesh and steel, creating an unstoppable army of undead soldiers. Leaderless and faced with dissension amongst their dwindling ranks, they must find the courage to face down an altogether new menace, or die trying.”

How will the found footage fare in 1945? We’ll find out in theaters and On Demand July 26.
