Found Footage… For Real: Nine Inch Nail’s “BROKEN” Short Film!Fearful Features,Movies/TV,News Ken W. Hanley
For over twenty years, Peter Christopherson’s BROKEN has been an eerie- and, for the most part, elusive- piece of rock ‘n’ roll history. Part music video, Part horror art film, this NSFW companion piece to Nine Inch Nail’s BROKEN EP has never had an official release, and to this day even remains somewhat of a difficult find on the internet (at least via legal means). Yet when one does find the 20-minute film, and has the stomach to sit through it all, it’s safe to say that the end result is something shocking, scary and simply unforgettable.
Now, at least for the time being, horrorheads can check out the BROKEN film in its entirety via archive.org, where the short film has been uploaded in its entirety under fair use laws. While it’s always possible that BROKEN will get some kind of official release in the future- perhaps once Trent Reznor has hung up his hat for good and comprehensive career box sets are in the cards, fans of the industrial metal outfit should give the film a whirl while they still can: if history has said anything about BROKEN, it’s that it doesn’t stick around for too long before it’s gone.
