For Your Consideration: The 2016 Chainsaw Award Nominees for Best TV Make-Up/Creature FX!

,,

With voting season now open on the FANGORIA Chainsaw Awards, fans are putting their minds at work to select their favorites out of every potential nominee. When it came to Best TV Make-Up/Creature FX, there were many deserving choices who didn’t unfortunately make the cut, including PENNY DREADFUL, FROM DUSK TILL DAWN: THE SERIES and ASH VS. EVIL DEAD. Nevertheless, with only five fright programs that could land the nominations, FANGORIA had to narrow it down to the absolute bloody best of Make-Up/Creature FX on terror television in 2015.

So without further ado, here are your FANGORIA Chainsaw Award Nominees for Best TV Make-Up/Creature FX…

Eryn Krueger Mekash & David LeRoy Anderson for AMERICAN HORROR STORY: HOTEL

In one of the series’ bloodiest seasons to date (which is certainly saying something), Mekash and Anderson went above and beyond to bring the lurid HOTEL to life. If the shocking “Ten Commandments Killer” crime scenes weren’t enough to secure a nomination outright, this creature-and-creeps-heavy cast certainly helped get over the hump.

Francois Dagenais for HANNIBAL

Even though the show’s third season eschewed the Chesapeake Ripper angle, HANNIBAL still managed to put together some ambitious and shocking gore courtesy of Francois Dagenais. Whether it be at the hands of Hannibal Lecter, Mason Verger or Francis Dolarhyde, the bodies and blood that piled up for HANNIBAL’s swan song impressed when shown in all their gruesome glory.

Matthew Mungle & Clinton Wayne for SALEM

Perhaps the most underrated FX work on television, Mungle and Wayne’s contributions to SALEM are as stunning in presentation as they are in concept, which helps the series be one of the strongest, most practical FX-driven horror shows out there today. Should SALEM’s loyal audience put in the effort, Mungle & Wayne could very well pull an upset over its more popular competitors for the Chainsaw Award.

Steve Newburn & Sean Sansom for THE STRAIN

For a bigger, more epic season of THE STRAIN, Newburn & Sansom stepped up their game in a major way, providing some of the best FX in the show’s history. Whether it’s The Battle for Red Hook or the petrifying prologue for The Master, THE STRAIN’s FX continues to be a highlight for its viewers, which could indeed bring it to its first Chainsaw win.

Gregory Nicotero & Howard Berger for THE WALKING DEAD

Last year’s Chainsaw Award winners are back again, and certainly have a leg up over their competitors: THE WALKING DEAD’s FX are not only fantastic, but also the standard by which most horror shows are judged considering the series’ massive audience. Should those fright fans be equally as impressed by the disgusting blood-letting on THE WALKING DEAD’s six season as FANGORIA was, the show could easily take the Chainsaw yet again.
