For Your Consideration: The 2016 Chainsaw Award Nominees for Best TV Actor!Movies/TV,News Ken W. Hanley
With voting season now open on the FANGORIA Chainsaw Awards, fans are putting their minds at work to select their favorites out of every potential nominee. When it came to the Best TV Actor category, the competition was stiff across the board, with SALEM’s Shane West, FROM DUSK TILL DAWN’s D.J. Cotrona, BATES MOTEL’s Freddie Highmore and AMERICAN HORROR STORY’s Wes Bentley all almost making the cut. And, of course, Andrew Lincoln certainly would have made the list had Season Six not been so segmented between its large ensemble of characters. Nevertheless, FANGORIA was able to sift through all the excellent lead actor performances of this past year and nominate our five favorites for your consideration.
So without further ado, here are your FANGORIA Chainsaw Award Nominees for Best TV Actor…
Bruce Campbell, in the role of Ash Williams from ASH VS. EVIL DEAD
From the minute it was announced, Bruce Campbell’s reprisal of the EVIL DEAD protagonist for Starz was the most anticipated moment in horror TV. And even with beyond high expectations, Campbell’s return to the role brought the goods in a big, bold way. Hilarious and as action ready as ever, this Chainsaw category is Campbell’s to lose.
Hugh Dancy, in the role of Will Graham from HANNIBAL
In the final season of HANNIBAL, Hugh Dancy offered one of his most multi-faceted performances, transforming from episode to episode in the wake of last season’s bloody betrayal at the hands of Hannibal Lecter. And as with the 2015 nominations, Dancy certainly earned his spot among the contenders as well as a fighting chance to pull an upset for Chainsaw glory.
Josh Hartnett, in the role of Lawrence Ethan Talbot from PENNY DREADFUL
In a season that gave him more of a complicated, tormented turn as PENNY DREADFUL’s resident werewolf, Hartnett impressed in a big way as both a paranormal outlaw and monster performer. And considering the series’ devoted fanbase is indeed growing, Hartnett could conceivably be taken seriously as the underdog of the 2016 Best TV Actor Chainsaw race.
Mads Mikkelsen, in the role of Hannibal Lecter from HANNIBAL
If Mikkelsen perfected the role of HANNIBAL’s titular character in season two, he mastered the villainous, anti-hero performance in season three. Offering a look at Dr. Lecter as a fugitive, hunter and prisoner, Mikkelsen’s artful master manipulator has literally never been better than when let off his wicked leash. And with this season likely being his swan song as this iteration of Hannibal, Mikkelsen could find himself getting some legacy votes that’ll could put the Chainsaw in arm’s reach.
Matt Ryan, in the role of John Constantine from CONSTANTINE
CONSTANTINE was a show that the fans fought for ‘till the very end, but for good reason: Matt Ryan was John Constantine incarnate. Ryan’s attitude, physicality and look all matched that of his comic book counterpart, and if those fans rally behind this Chainsaw category, Ryan could be the true dark horse of this race.
