First Trailer: Guillermo del Toro’s “CRIMSON PEAK”

One of our favorite director’s here at FANGORIA is Guillermo del Toro, whose unique vision has brought many great new icons to the horror landscape. Of course, del Toro’s formal return to feature film horror, CRIMSON PEAK, has been one of FANGORIA’s most anticipated titles, and with Valentine’s Day so near, the first trailer for CRIMSON PEAK has finally arrived.

For this writer, this first trailer for CRIMSON PEAK is certainly creepy, but admittedly a bit underwhelming. While del Toro has certainly racked up one hell of a production in terms of production value and actors alone, something seems a bit off about the trailer, whether it’s some of the distracting CG flourishes or perhaps the nerve-grinding cover of Nick Cave’s RED RIGHT HAND. But knowing del Toro, who insisted that CRIMSON PEAK tells an R-rated story, there’s also a good chance that the film is hiding its scarier material for down the line. Either way, the film looks gorgeous, and del Toro isn’t the one to drop the ball when something as Gothic as CRIMSON PEAK rears its horrifying head. The film hits theaters October 16th, and you can see the trailer for the film below.
