First Trailer for “THE MUMMY” Reveals New Universal Monster Universe!

,

After a banner year with studio, independent, and televised horror, 2017 looks to hold much petrifying promise as well. Yet for fans of the classic Universal Monster films, there’s been much curiosity- optimistic or otherwise- regarding the inaugural entry in Universal’s shared monster universe, Alex Kurtzman’s THE MUMMY. While the film has all the makings of the action-adventure blockbusters of Stephen Sommers’ MUMMY movies, fright fans have been wondering just how much horror would be on display in this reboot, and they’ve finally got a look with THE MUMMY’s first full trailer, which you can see below!

For those unfamiliar, here’s the official synopsis and trailer for THE MUMMY (2017)…

Believed to be safely entombed in a crypt deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient queen, whose destiny was unjustly taken from her, is awakened in our current day, bringing malevolence with her that has grown over millennia.

While the jury is still out on the horror quotient, this writer is, at the very least, intrigued by the tone set by the trailer. From the demise and resurrection of the lead, played by Tom Cruise, to Sofia Boutella’s creepy new take on the titular character to Russell Crowe’s “gatekeeper” role of Dr. Henry Jekyll, THE MUMMY has a lot going for it, and if the film can embrace its creature feature elements to separate itself from the previous modern MUMMY films, this could very well surprise us in the scare department. THE MUMMY is set to bow on June 9th from Universal Pictures; stay tuned for more on the film at FANGORIA.com!
