First Series Trailer Brings Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan’s “THE STRAIN” to Life

FX is no stranger to the endless tease. Each season of AMERICAN HORROR STORY has been heralded by countless mini clips, stylish and specially crafted around the season’s theme. The highly anticipated upcoming adaptation of Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan’s novel THE STRAIN has been no different, if a little frustrating. Small teases, while undeniably neat have taken what seems like forever to give way to actual footage from the series, which you can finally see below.

Based on the trilogy of novels from del Toro and Hogan, THE STRAIN “tells the story of “Dr. Ephraim Goodweather,” the head of the Center for Disease Control Canary Team in New York City.  He and his team are called upon to investigate a mysterious viral outbreak with hallmarks of an ancient and evil strain of vampirism.  As the strainspreads, Eph, his team, and an assembly of everyday New Yorkers, wage war for the fate of humanity itself.”

del Toro directed the pilot of the series, which was co-written by the filmmaker and Hogan. LOST vet Carlton Cuse will showrun/executive produce and write, otherwise. THE STRAIN premieres Sunday, July 13 and having not read the novels yet, what seems mostly intriguing is the style and design on display. The sci-fi horror tinged look of the corpse-filled airplane is winning, as is the beast that closes out the quick clip, one certainly indicative of del Toro-influence.
