Festival Trailer, Poster: Bekmambetov-Produced Online Horror, “CYBERNATURAL”

Three’s a trend, right? Making for the third 2014 feature told entirely via laptop screen, CYBERNATURAL is currently playing Montreal’s storied genre fest, Fantasia and a new look has debuted—where else?—online.

Joining V/H/S’ “The Sick That Happened to Emily When She Was Younger,” THE DEN and Nacho Vigalondo’s OPEN WINDOWS, CYBERNATURAL is the latest in an online-based storytelling style whose aesthetic feels largely authentic, lending to an effective creepiness even when the movie as a whole isn’t great. The film, directed by Leo Gabriadze and presented by WANTED and NIGHT WATCH filmmaker Timur Bekmambetov, takes the current climate of online bullying head-on as a group of friends meeting for an online video chat are seemingly stalked by the ghost of a suicidal classmate they wronged.

Expect a review of CYBERNATURAL and more out of the Fantasia Film Festival right here on Fango.
