FANGORIA’s GOREZONE to return this year!
FANGORIA is thrilled to announce the impending return of one of our most beloved properties: the late, lamented blood-spattered spin-off magazine, GOREZONE!
Established in 1988 as a darker, gorier and more esoteric sister to our mainstay macabre periodical, the short lived GOREZONE, edited by FANGORIA legend Tony Timpone, became an instant cult item and featured such essential columns as the great Chas. Balun’s riotous “Piece O’ Mind”, “Caglione and Drexler’s Make-Up FX Lab” and Tim Lucas’ “Video Watchdog.” Frequently running into trouble with censors, fans ate the mag up and issues still command decent market value today.
In 2011, current EIC Chris Alexander put together “The Bloody Best of GOREZONE,” a one-off experiment timed to sell at Comic Con and direct to consumers via Fangoria.com. The issue was a sell-out success and featured reprints of some of Alexander’s favorite GOREZONE articles, as well as select new features. Since that time, fans have been endlessly asking about whether or not GOREZONE would come back as a regular title. Our answer was always, “yes…but we’re waiting for the right time.”
We will be unleashing GOREZONE later this year as a bi-monthly magazine direct to consumers. This new GOREZONE will not be sold on newsstands, but fans will be able to purchase annual subscriptions or stand alone issues through our website store.
“By bypassing the newsstand, we are aiming to make GOREZONE the most extreme and exciting horror magazine on the market,” says Alexander. “We’ll be following the template set by classic GOREZONE, celebrating splatter classics and taboo smashing cult gems while shining lights on contemporary gonzo, edgy indie fare and bold international titles. This new version of GOREZONE will be a wild, go-for-broke grab bag of bizarre and bloody dark fantasy and horror goodness… unrated, uncensored and fearless”.
Stay tuned to FANGORIA.com for more details as they come….
