FANGORIA Screamers: Jeff Tuttle’s “CATHEXIS”

CathexisFeat2

For FANGORIA Screamers, the New Year means new talent. Currently the vocalist of of Detroit heavy weird punks Old Gods and formerly of notorious metal outfit The Dillinger Escape Plan—and even an occasional resident here at FANGORIA—director Jeff Tuttle is relatively young in the moviemaking game. Still, his work is dripping in black ooze, as well as assurance and boldness, looking to prod what makes our skin crawl and minds warp.

CATHEXIS is the story of a therapist questioning her own sanity as the boundaries of her reality become blurred and she is tormented by visions of a nightmarish world and the oozing, hellish creature that lives within.

Tuttle says, “CATHEXIS began as a philosophic approach to horror and an inquiry into the essence of all fear. Ultimately, I wanted to create a visual representation of what it’s like to feel trapped under the existential weight of fear and the depths to which we fall when we allow ourselves to wallow in depression.”
